Howard County is the 3rd wealthiest county in the United States, yet 14.5% *
of our public school students must rely on the federal free/reduced meal
program for nutritious meals their families cannot afford.
* that’s over 7,400 students, and 300+ of them are homeless
Poverty is invisible to many fine and upstanding Howard County citizens.
Many are unaware that each fall far too many county families must choose
between paying for school supplies or food, medicine, utilities, rent or gas.

to offer an easy, affordable way for more fortunate county neighbors
to sponsor supplies and backpacks that will be sent directly
to our most vulnerable students’ schools.
